Many Christians think sharing their faith means talking more.
So we preach.
We explain.
We try to give all the right answers.
But when you look closely at the life of Jesus, something stands out:
Jesus constantly asked questions.
Not because He lacked answers—but because questions reveal the heart.
Jesus Asked Questions
Jesus often led people toward truth through questions:
- “Who do you say I am?”
- “Do you want to be healed?”
- “Why are you afraid?”
- “Do you love Me?”
One of the most powerful examples is found in Matthew 16:
📖 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” — Matthew 16:15
Jesus was not simply transferring information.
He was drawing out conviction.
Questions force people to personally wrestle with truth.
Questions Create Relationship
In the video, I share something very simple but powerful:
👉 Relationships often begin with questions, not preaching.
When I meet someone, I usually do not immediately launch into a sermon.
I begin by asking questions.
Questions communicate:
- interest
- care
- respect
- and genuine concern
People are much more open when they feel heard instead of preached at.
The Bible says:
📖 “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” — Proverbs 20:5
Wise questions draw out what is hidden in the heart.
Questions Changed My Life
When I became a follower of Christ, someone first asked me a question:
👉 “If you were to die today, would you go to heaven?”
I answered,
“Yes, I think so.”
But then they asked another question:
👉 “Do you think there’s something else you could do?”
That question opened the door for a deeper conversation about grace, repentance, and Jesus Christ.
Questions can open hearts in ways preaching alone sometimes cannot.
Ask Questions Before You Preach
One of the simplest ways to share your faith is this:
👉 Ask questions first.
When I talk with people, I often ask:
- “Do you have any needs in your life?”
- “How can I pray for you?”
- “May I pray for you?”
After praying, I might ask:
👉 “Can I share the greatest miracle God has done in my life?”
Questions create natural opportunities to share the Gospel.
They also help you understand where someone is spiritually.
Asking Questions Shows Love
James 1:19 says:
📖 “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak…”
Listening matters.
Sometimes Christians rush to preach before they truly understand the person in front of them.
But listening demonstrates love.
It shows people they are not just a project or a number.
Questions also create space for the Holy Spirit to work.
We cannot convict hearts.
Only God can do that.
Questions Help in Different Cultures
In many places around the world, people may know very little about Jesus.
When I share in Southeast Asia, I cannot simply say,
“Give your heart to Jesus.”
Many people there have never heard who Jesus is.
So I begin with questions:
- “How do you think the world was created?”
- “Where do you think humanity came from?”
- “Why do you think people struggle with suffering?”
- “What do you think happens after death?”
Questions help people think deeply and engage personally.
Powerful Questions You Can Ask
Here are a few simple questions you can use in spiritual conversations:
- “Who do you think Jesus is?”
- “Why do you think people still feel empty even when life seems good?”
- “What do you think happens after death?”
- “Where are you in your spiritual journey?”
- “If you could ask God one question, what would it be?”
- “Why do you think God sent Jesus?”
- “Who else in your life needs the hope found in Christ?”
You do not need complicated methods.
Sometimes one sincere question can open the door to life transformation.
Evangelism Is More Than Preaching
Preaching is important.
The Gospel must be proclaimed.
But effective evangelism is not simply talking at people.
It is walking with people toward Jesus.
Questions slow us down.
Questions help us listen.
Questions expose the heart.
Questions invite reflection.
Questions create dialogue instead of confrontation.
And often, questions prepare the way for the Gospel message to truly be heard.
Final Thought
We do not win people to Christ by having perfect arguments or all the right answers.
We win people by loving them enough to listen.
A Spirit-led question can open a heart in ways preaching alone sometimes cannot.
The Gospel itself begins with a question:
