Starting a conversation about Christ with someone you’ve never met can feel intimidating.
What do you say?
How do you begin?
What if it feels awkward?
The good news is this: sharing your faith doesn’t have to be complicated, forced, or scripted. God is already at work long before you ever open your mouth.
In this short video, I walk through a simple, biblical approach I use when starting conversations about Jesus—especially with people I’ve never met before.

How do you start a conversation about Christ with someone you’ve never met?
Below is a simple framework you can use anywhere—at the park, in a café, while traveling, or in everyday life.
1. Pray First — Before You Say a Word
Before you approach anyone, pray.
Ask the Holy Spirit to:
- Prepare their heart
- Give you discernment
- Open the door for a natural conversation
You’re not starting the conversation alone. God is already working ahead of you.
If you want to go deeper on this, I explain this in more detail here:

Prayer aligns your heart with God’s mission and removes the pressure to “get it right.”
2. Break the Ice — Just Say “Hello”
It sounds simple, but don’t underestimate it.
A genuine “hello” communicates:
- I see you
- You matter
- I’m approachable
You’re starting a human conversation, not delivering a presentation.
3. Ask a Thought-Provoking Question
Once a natural connection is made, try asking:
“If God were to do a miracle in your life today, what would it be?”
This question opens hearts, reveals real needs, and creates space for prayer.
4. Offer to Pray — Right There
After they share, simply ask:
“Would you mind if I prayed for you right now?”
Very few people refuse prayer. Many are deeply grateful when someone genuinely cares.
5. Share Your Story — Keep It Short
After praying, you can ask:
“Would it be okay if I shared the greatest miracle that’s ever happened in my life?”
Share your testimony in three minutes or less:
- Who you were before Christ
- How you encountered Him
- How He changed your life
This isn’t about being impressive—it’s about being faithful.
6. Share God’s Story — Invite Them Into the Gospel
After sharing your testimony, there is often a natural openness to go deeper.
That’s when you can gently ask:
“Could I share with you more about how you can have this miracle happen in your life too?”
This question does two important things:
- It respects their freedom to listen or not
- It transitions clearly from your story to God’s story
If they say yes, share the Gospel story—not as a debate, but as good news.
God’s story is bigger than any one moment:
- Creation – God created us for relationship with Him
- The Fall – Sin separated us from God
- Redemption – Jesus came, lived, died, and rose again to reconcile us to God
- Response – We are called to repent, believe, and follow Christ
- Judgment & Restoration – God will one day restore all things
This isn’t about rushing someone into a decision or reciting a formula. It’s about clearly explaining what God has done and inviting them to respond.
To help with this, we use a simple resource that walks through the Gospel from beginning to end:

7. Invite Them to Discover God’s Word Together
(Not Just “Go to Church”)
After sharing God’s story, the next step is not asking:
“Would you like to go to church with me?”
For many people, that feels like a big leap—or something they’re not ready for yet.
Instead, try something more relational and biblical:
“I would be more than happy to share more stories from the Bible with you, your family, or your friends—maybe at your house or somewhere comfortable. We could read and talk about what God says together.”
This invitation:
- Keeps the focus on God’s Word, not a building or program
- Honors their relational world (family and friends)
- Invites discovery, not pressure
What you’re inviting them into is often called a Discovery Bible Study or Discovery Group—though you don’t even need to use that term.
A discovery group is simply a small gathering where people:
- Read a short Bible passage together
- Talk about what it says about God and life
- Discuss how it applies personally
- Encourage one another to live it out and share it
You’re not preaching.
You’re not forcing conclusions.
You’re letting God’s Word and the Holy Spirit do the work.
This mirrors how Jesus discipled people—walking with them, opening the Scriptures, and inviting them into obedience step by step.
Bringing It All Together
Sharing your faith doesn’t end with a conversation—it leads to ongoing discovery and discipleship.
- Pray
- Start a conversation
- Listen well
- Pray for real needs
- Share your story
- Share God’s story
- Invite them to discover God’s Word together
God does the saving.
God does the transforming.
We simply walk with people and open the Scriptures.
Remember This
We are messengers of good news for everyone.
You don’t have to be perfect.
You don’t need all the answers.
You just need to be willing and available.
God does the saving.
We simply obey.
