Questions Everyone Asks About Life and Creation

Have you ever wondered:

  • How did the earth begin?
  • Why was the world created?
  • Where did the first man come from?
  • Where did the first woman come from?
  • Who were our first ancestors?
  • Why is there suffering and death in the world?
  • Why is there a talking snake in the Bible?

These are some of humanity’s oldest questions.

People from every culture ask questions about origins, purpose, identity, suffering, and death. Long before modern science, philosophy, or religion, people were asking where they came from and why the world is the way it is.

Did you know there is a book called the Bible that claims to answer these questions?

The Bible begins with the story of creation in Genesis 1–3. It tells us how the world began, where the first people came from, why the world is no longer the way God intended it to be, and God’s first promise of hope.

Discovery Questions from Genesis 1–3

As you read the story, consider these questions:

  1. How did the earth begin?
  2. Did you know there’s a book called the Bible that tells us a Creator God made the world?
  3. How long did it take God to create the earth?
  4. What did God do on the seventh day?
  5. How did God decide to make man look?
  6. How did God form the first man?
  7. Where did the woman come from?
  8. When God said, “Let us make man in our image,” who does “us” refer to?
  9. Who named the animals?
  10. What was man’s first responsibility?
  11. What was man’s first decision?
  12. What did God say about the man and woman becoming one?
  13. What choice did God give the man and woman?
  14. What was the first good decision?
  15. What was the first wrong decision?
  16. Do you know what sin means?
  17. When was the first sin or disobedience?
  18. What was the consequence of sin?
  19. What did man do to cover up his sin?
  20. What did God do to cover their shame?

Additional Discovery Questions

  1. Why did God create the woman?
  2. What two special trees were in the garden?
  3. Who tempted the woman?
  4. What happened to the relationship between God and man after sin entered the world?
  5. What promise did God give after the first sin?
  6. Why did God send the man and woman out of the garden?
  7. What agreement or command did God give the man and woman?
  8. Why couldn’t they eat from the Tree of Life after they sinned?
